Steve Tipps Endows Scholarship to Honor His Grandmother
Steve Tipps |
From a young age, Steve Tipps witnessed the powerful influence his grandmother had on her students as she taught in public schools in Archer and Wichita (TX) counties from 1914 to 1965. To honor his grandmother’s legacy, the former MSU Texas professor created a living trust that will one day honor her.
The trust supports Dr. Tipps and his wife throughout their lives and will then make gifts to several charities, including the MSU Foundation. The Mary Shaeffer Crawford Scholarship Endowment will support students earning teaching certificates for careers as educators. The gift, he said, is in appreciation of the support and professional opportunity the University provided him as well as his personal belief in the power of education to transform lives.
Dr. Tipps joined the MSU faculty in 1984 as the West Professor of Education, where for eight years he taught many students who would later serve as educators in the same schools as his grandmother. He earned his B.S. in mathematics from The University of Texas-Arlington and his Ph.D. in mathematical education from The Ohio State University.
